NYC Weather: Up To 4 Inches Of Snow Could Snarl Tuesday Commutes

A wintry mix is on its way to the city, starting as early as 1 a.m., forecasters said Monday.

NEW YORK, NY — A mix of freezing rain and up to 4 inches of snow is on its way to mess up both of Tuesday's commutes, the National Weather Service warned Monday.

A cloudy and mild Monday, with temperatures as high as 37, will turn stormy as early as 1 a.m., when there's a 50 percent chance snow will start falling over the city, forecasters said.

The flakes will become a wintry mix as the morning commute picks up, with predictions of freezing rain, snow and sleet until about 3 p.m. Higher temperatures later on Tuesday likely mean it will turn into rain into the night.

"Plan on slippery road conditions," the NWS said. "The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Precipitation will most likely be in the form of rain by the end of the evening commute, which may be impacted as well."

NWS predicts little to no ice accumulation, but between 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet by the end of the day. Temperatures will move back up later in the week, with highs of 44 and 46 expected for Wednesday and Thursday.
