NEW YORK — Keep your galoshes on standby. A day of drenching rain will likely spoil a mostly sunny fall week in New York City, forecasters say.

Nearly half an inch of rain is expected to soak Central Park from the Wednesday morning rush hour into the early hours of Thursday morning, the National Weather Service says.

The heaviest showers will arrive in time for the Wednesday evening commute, with more than three quarters of an inch set to fall from 2 to 8 p.m. as the temperature hits a high near 66 degrees, according to the forecast.

Pleasant fall days are expected to bookend the wet weather. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be sunny and breezy with high temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to mid-60s, the weather service says.

Marchers in Monday's annual Columbus Day Parade shouldn't have anything to worry about, either — the mercury will climb to a high near 71 as skies clear throughout the day, the forecast shows.
