NEW YORK CITY — Gusty winds and hail could knock out power Thursday afternoon as a hazardous storm hits New York City, forecasters warned.

Hail, rain, thunder and winds of up to 45 mph will pound the abandoned streets of New York City between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," forecasters warned. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."

Home and building owners should bring inside any lightweight objects such as potted plants, garbage cans and lawn furniture, the DOB said.

According to the forecast, New York City's coastline could also see minor flooding.

The storm comes in advance of what forecasters warn will be an unusually active hurricane season, and amid a global pandemic that's left all "non essential" city workers ordered to remain at home.
