NEW YORK CITY — National Pizza Day is here and this means you are required by law to eat a $1 hot, cheesy Sunday brunch.

Okay, it doesn't mean that. But still, it's a pretty good excuse if you need one.

In honor of the national holiday which falls on Sunday, Patch has collected recommendations from our Local Legends, famous New Yorkers who love this city and know where to find a good slice.

Broadway Star Liz Larsen

"Mama's Pizzeria is on our corner and we practically lived there when the boys were growing up. Now their son Franco has opened his own gourmet pizza shop (Mama's TOO!) and the lines snake around the block. It is the most delicious pizza I've ever eaten. The pear and Gorgonzola is my favorite."

Sen. Chuck Schumer

"Pizza. Roma Pizza has the best pizza in NYC. I once did a pizza test where I went all around Brooklyn and rated the pizzas on four things: thin versus thick crust (I don't like thick crust), malty-ness (I like malty), tomato sauce (I prefer spicy to sweet), and the amount and quality of cheese. Roma is No. 1, I recommend that everyone go to Roma Pizza, I've been going there for 20 years."

Attorney General Letitia James

"Pizza from Luigi's (The 3 Luigis) on Grand and Lafayette avenues. This has been a staple in the community for a long time and can beat any other NYC pizza."

Chef Danny Brown

"New York-style pizza has always been a constant in my neighborhood since I was a kid, and I think it's probably some of the best in the city."

Portofino
109-32 Ascan Ave
Forest Hills, Queens

Comedian Gastor Almonte

"I have done several things for a slice of Caterina Pizza. The owner, Vito, he's more East New York than all of us. Vito will, like, give a high five to Naz not knowing it's Naz. I have paid them obscene amounts of money to stay open to cook pizza for me."

Drag Queen Merrie Cherry

"It seems so generic because it's Italian in an old Italian neighborhood, but my favorite place to eat is an Italian pizzeria. The best is Sal's Pizza."

Sal's Pizzeria
544 Lorimer St.
Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Comedian Shalewa Sharpe

"Walk into any bar and ask when is your comedy night and they will give you three different ones. Cobra Club has a great weekly show on Friday night. I've done it, and it's always good people. That's one of my favorites. Also Archie's Bar and Pizza."

Archie's Bar and Pizza

Preservationist Magie Dominic

"The best pizza is at Gotham."
