Troutdale Couple Win $100K On Lottery Scratch-it

Jean and David Black could hardly believe their good fortune when they won $100,000 on a $10 Luck Numbers Scratch-it game.

TROUTDALE, OR β€” A Troutdale couple "felt the zing" of a big lottery win earlier this month when they cashed in on a $100,000 Oregon Lottery Scratch-it. A so-called Scratch-it hobbyist, David Black was apparently unsure of his good fortune when he first saw the winning prize.

"When I came home (David) said he wanted me to look at something," David's wife Jean recently told Oregon Lottery officials. "He asked me what I thought, and I thought it looked suspicious … suspiciously like a win!"

To confirm their suspicions, Jean and David returned to the Dotty's off Southeast Stark Street, at 3157 S.W. 257th Dr. in Troutdale, where David bought the Scratch-it.

"The clerk there scanned it and we felt zing, with a bunch of zeroes," Jean said. "This was (David's) lucky day."

According to Oregon Lottery spokesman Patrick Johnson, "The couple won playing the $10 Lucky Numbers Scratch-it, which has a top prize of $100,000. There is one top prize remaining with the Lucky Numbers Scratch-it."

The couple on Sept. 10 reportedly went to Salem to collect their winnings. While there, David and Jean told Lottery officials they plan to save most the money for retirement or a rainy day but will likely use some of it for improvements around their home.

The Black's win is the largest ever at the Dotty's in Troutdale, Johnson said, noting that two people won $10,000 apiece on video lottery in 2011. For its part, Dotty's will get $1,000.
