Montgomery County To Raise Pride Flag

Montgomery County will raise an LGBTQ Pride flag as part of Pride Month and in commemoration of the Stonewall riots.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County will hold a special ceremony next week In celebration of Pride Month and the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

The county will raise an LGBTQ Pride flag at the courthouse on Tuesday, June 18 at 12:30 p.m.

The flag will fly through June 30.

The Stonewall riots, which took place in New York in June 1969, are widely scene as a catalyst for the LGBTQ movement.

On hand at the ceremony next Tuesday will be local leaders, including Rachel Levine, the Pennsylvania physician general and one of the nation's highest ranking openly transgender officials. In addition, Montgomery County Register of Wills D. Bruce Hanes will be in attendance. Hanes was the first elected official to issue same-sex marriage licenses in Pennsylvania.

The courthouse flagpoles are located at the corner of Swede and Airy streets.
