Monday, Oct. 14 is Columbus Day, a day off of work or school for many across Rhode Island. Named for Christopher Columbus, the holiday is an important celebration for Italian-American culture.

In honor of the holiday, many businesses and public services will be closed. While it is a federal holiday, only some businesses choose to observe it.

  • Restaurants, bars: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Libraries: Closed

  • Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed
  • Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only
  • RIPTA: Sunday/Holiday schedule
  • Trash Collection: Most towns with pickup are delayed by one day. Check with your local public works department if you're unsure.
