Monday is Presidents Day, a celebration of two of the country's most iconic leaders, as well as the kickoff to February vacation for many Rhode Island students.

Started in 1885, the holiday originally celebrated George Washington's birthday on Feb. 22, then later renamed to include Abraham Lincoln's birthday on Feb. 12. The holiday is now celebrated on the third Monday of February.

While it is a federal holiday, not all companies and government agencies celebrate it. Notably, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority will run on a regular schedule instead of the Sunday/holiday schedule observed on other holidays.
