East Providence Launches Summer Youth Police And Fire Academy

14- and 15-year-olds can learn what it's like to be an emergency responder during the month-long program.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence teens looking for something to do this summer can have the chance to explore what it's like to be a firefighter or police officer. On Monday, the city announced a new pilot program, called the Mayor's Youth Summer Police and Fire Academy, which allows 14- and 15-year-olds to take part in a month-long program, with the promise of $250 at the end.

The program will run from July 8 to August 8 and will include classroom learning, field trips and demonstrations four days per week, from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. On Thursdays, work readiness and reflective sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
