RI Man Pleads Guilty To Oxycodone, Alprazolam Charges

Court records show that Eric Tingley, 43, forged opioid prescriptions when he worked as a pharmacist in Connecticut.

HOPKINTON, RI — A Rhode Island man pleaded guilty to opioid-related charges in federal court in Connecticut on Tuesday. Eric Tingley, 43, is accused of using forged prescriptions to obtain thousands of oxycodone and alprazolam tablets from the Connecticut pharmacy where he worked at the time.

According to John Durham, the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut, Tingley forged more than 200 prescriptions between October 2016 and July 2017, then selling the drugs "for his own benefit." At the time, Tingley was a licensed pharmacist, who lived in Lebanon, Connecticut at the time and worked at a Norwich pharmacy. During that time, he forged 183 oxycodone and 26 alprazolam prescriptions, allowing his to illegally obtain more than 35,000 oxycodone tablets and more than 2,000 alprazolam tablets.

Tingley was arrested in June 2018.

On Tuesday, Tingley pleaded guilty to one count of poseesion with intent to distribute oxycodone and alprazolam. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Tingley was released on $50,000 bond, pending sentencing on January 9, 2020.
