Rhode Islanders are feeling the pinch at the pump after the average cost per gallon climbed eight cents in the past week. In some parts of the country, average prices are once again more than four dollars per gallon. The average cost per gallon in Rhode Island is now $2.63.

While that may seem high, Rhode Island is twenty cents lower than the national average of $2.83 and two cents lower than the price at the same time last year.

"Spring gas prices continue to climb as the switch-over to summer blend gasoline, which is more expensive to produce, becomes more prevalent," said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. "Demand has skyrocketed in the last few weeks, and while prices locally are significantly below the national average, they are still up 21 cents since the start of the year."
