RI Weather: Winter Weather Advisory In Advance Of Sloppy Storm

Snow totals are expected to be low, but icy rain could make for a slippery Thursday morning commute.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Rhode Island ahead of tonight's wintry weather. The winter weather advisory, which is warning of mixed precipitation and "hazardous conditions" impacting the Thursday morning commute, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m.

Snow totals will be low across the state, with only one to two inches expected. The concern is for after the snowfall ends, when sleet and freezing rain are expected to coat roadways and make for a messy Thursday morning commute.

"Mixed precipitation expected," the National Weather Service said. "Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch expected."

Snowfall is expected to start between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. and continue until about 2 a..m Thursday, when it will turn over to rain.
