Rhode Island Nor'easter Falls Short Of Rainfall Expectations

Expect less rain and gusty winds throughout the day on Friday.

On day three of Rhode Island's nor'easter, the rain is mostly finished, but strong, gusty winds are still likely throughout the day. While it could rain throughout the day on Friday, don't expect the downpour forecasters initially predicted.

The large system that has been parked over Southern New England for the past few days is mostly over the water, bringing down rainfall amounts. On Thursday night, the National Weather Service tweeted that the storm tracked farther south than they expected.

"Luckily not waking anyone up but the fishes," the weather service said. "Pretty impressive storm activity out over the ocean associated with the Nor'Easter."

The weather service said there is a 20 percent chance the system could become a tropical storm.

Rhode Island has seen steady rain and strong winds over the past two days, though only isolated power outages. A wind advisory across the entire state expired at 6 a.m. Friday, but gusts as high as 37 mph are still expected throughout the day.

The Block Island Ferry once again canceled all service on both the traditional and high speed ferries on Friday. For more information, call the reservation office at 1-866-783-7996.

At noon, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation canceled all remaining Providence to Newport ferries for the day.
