No Injuries Reported In Fiery I-95 North Crash

The two-vehicle crash completely closed I-95 north in downtown Providence just in time for the afternoon rush hour.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Traffic heading into Providence came to a standstill on Monday afternoon after all lanes of travel were blocked for an hour by a fiery crash on Interstate 95 north just past the I-195 split. Video taken at the scene showed a massive plume of thick, black smoke coming from the vehicle, which appears to be a large truck. No injuries were reported in the two-vehicle crash, Rhode Island State Police said.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said all northbound lanes were blocked by the crash, which happened just after 3:45 p.m. near Exit 22 in downtown Providence. Traffic quickly backed up as crews worked to clear the scene. The road was cleared and all lanes were reopened by 5:15 p.m., RIDOT said.

Rhode Island State Police said two vehicles were involved in the crash and no injuries were reported. The cause of the crash is now known at this time.

A witness to the crash, Rachael Lavine, said on Facebook that she saw a vehicle rear-end the truck, which immediately burst into flames.
