2 Runners Suffer Heart Attacks During Austin 3M Half Marathon

Paramedics were called to the 3M Half Marathon in Austin after reports of two runners experiencing heart attacks Sunday morning.

AUSTIN, TX β€” Two participants in the 3M Half Marathon in Austin on Sunday are being treated at trauma centers after suffering heart attacks while running in the race, according to local reports.

Austin-Travis County EMS told CBS Austin that the first patient was located at the intersection of East 32nd Street and Duval Street at 9:48 a.m. The second runner was evaluated close to the finish line and then transported to a local trauma center.

Both patients are in critical condition and in their forties, according to local reports.

The two runners were part of more than 7,000 fellow participants in Austin taking part in the half-marathon, which the race's events page boasts as one of the "fastest 13.1-mile courses in the country."
