1 Seriously Hurt After Dive Into Downtown Austin Lake

The adult patient sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries after diving from a bridge at Congress Avenue and West Cesar Chavez.

AUSTIN, TX β€” A person who jumped from a bridge into a downtown lake sustained serious injuries on Sunday.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics wrote on Twitter the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. at Congress Avenue and West Cesar Chavez Street. Several rescuers were dispatched to the scene, and kayakers who were on the lake also responded to help the injured diver.

Medics said the adult person had jumped from a bridge over the lake, and was having trouble breathing. The diver was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center after sustaining injuries that were deemed serious but not life-threatening.
