Bridge Closure Over I-66 To Start Near Vienna Metro
The bridge closure is coming up. Here's what commuters should know about traffic changes.
VIENNA, VA — The Vaden Drive bridge over Interstate 66 is expected to close around Friday, Oct. 18 through summer 2020, according to Fairfax County. Commuters should expect traffic changes near the Vienna Metro as part of the project adding I-66 Express Lanes outside the Beltway.
The bridge will be closed for reconstruction and the addition of Express Lane ramps to and from the westbound direction. The revamped bridge will accommodate a wider I-66 with Express Lane access to and from the west for buses and cars.
The ramp from Saintsbury Drive to eastbound I-66 permanently closed in September as part of the Vaden Drive construction. During the Vaden Drive bridge closure, commuter buses only will use the ramp. Drivers should use Nutley Street to access I-66. Nutley Street is accessible through Saintsbury Drive on the south side of I-66 and Virginia Center Boulevard on the north side of I-66).

The project is a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation, Department of Rail and Public Transportation and I-66 Express Mobility Partners. The Express Lanes outside the Beltway are expected to open in late 2022.
