I-43 Was Shut Down In Milwaukee For 'Person On Overpass'

Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials said a person on a freeway overpass caused the shutdown on Tuesday.

MILWAUKEE, WI — All northbound and southbound lanes of I-43 have been reopened after they were shut down midday Tuesday when local authorities tended to a person on a freeway overpass.

Authorities said I-43 was shut down between Wisconsin Ave. and Highland Ave. starting at about noon Tuesday. All lanes were back open by 4 p.m.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials said they were assisting Marquette Police with an incident, and Milwaukee police are also involved.

Southbound traffic was diverted off the freeway at Highland Ave. All northbound traffic on I-43 was diverted eastbound and westbound at the Marquette Interchange.

Milwaukee police provided an update on the situation, saying they were talking with a person on the 1000 block of W. Wells St. who was on a freeway overpass.

"This incident caused street closures on Wells St. from N. 10th St to N. 11th St and I-43," Milwaukee police said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
