An Oregonian Bistro With Chicken Liver Parfaits Moves Into the Hoxton Tomorrow

Chicken liver parfait with summer berries, Dungeness crab sandwiches on milk buns, and potato chips with trout roe are coming to the Hoxton’s ground-level restaurant space. Lovely Rita is replacing the Mexican restaurant La Neta, with the restaurant’s Latin American hits landing at the hotel’s rooftop bar and neighboring coffee counter.

As the Oregonian first reported, chef Johnny Leach has switched up the whole schtick within the kitchen. As is standard with Submarine Hospitality restaurants like Ava Gene’s and Tusk, Lovely Rita will have an assortment of vegetable-heavy dishes made with Oregonian produce, from an heirloom tomato salad with hazelnuts and chile oil to a summer bean salad with plums. The restaurant also gets into hearty territory, with bistro essentials like a ribeye with Maître d’Hôtel butter and a seared duck breast with ground cherries. It wouldn’t be a Submarine restaurant without a twist, however; the tartare comes dry-aged with pickled daikon, and the Kusshi oysters come with a melon mignonette.

During the day, Lovely Rita gets even more into the health food world, with a handful of smoothies, an edamame grain bowl, and an avocado toast with pickles and creme fraiche. The restaurant will serve breakfast items like its egg sandwich and french toast until 3 p.m., as well as lunch-ier dishes like smoked mushrooms with chickpeas and a curry chicken sandwich.

Those grieving the loss of the Hoxton can find a few holdouts throughout the hotel: The coffee bar on the ground floor remains relatively unchanged, with its pastry case of conchas, and La Neta’s 30-day dry-aged burger lives on at Lovely Rita.
