'Little People, Big World' 's Zach and Tori Roloff Help Son Jackson Take His First Steps

Zach and Tori Roloff admit they weren't expecting their son to walk so soon

Baby on the move!

In an exclusive sneak peek from this week’s episode of Little People, Big World, Zach and Tori Roloff watch as their son Jackson Kyle attempts his first steps.

“He’s going to start walking,” Tori says. “It’s like right around the corner.”

To help encourage Jackson to walk on his own, Zach and Tori clear out the living room to give him the space he needs.

“We kind of want to set it up as a safe area by moving our furniture and practicing with him,” she adds.

As the parents sit across the room and help Jackson walk between them, Zach can’t but marvel at his son’s progress. Like his father, Jackson was born with achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism.

“Jackson is way ahead of where I was at this time,” he says. “Jackson’s just like a completely different baby than I was. It’s so fun seeing your kid advance and learn something new.”

While Zach says he didn’t take his first steps until he was nearly 2 years old, Jackson is already on the move at just 13 months.

“Jackson is killing it, being a dwarf and everything,” says Zach. “He’s just doing his thing, developing along nicely and hitting all of his milestones.”

The couple welcomed Jackson on May 12, 2017. Zach previously opened up to PEOPLE about raising a child with dwarfism.

“You have to encourage a dwarf child a little more because it will take them five steps to do what others can do in two,” he said. “But I knew, dwarf or not, I was going to parent my child with the mentality that not everyone gets a trophy. You have to earn it.”

But Zach is glad the world is a little gentler than when he was growing up.

“The world is changing. People are more open to diversity,” said the reality star and soccer coach, who hopes nothing will impede Jackson from achieving his dreams. “Whatever he wants to do, we’re going to find a way to help him do it. That’s our job in life now.”

Little People, Big World airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
