Sunday’s regional sports roundup: Virginia Beach City FC’s winning streak ends at three with loss to Baltimore team

FC Baltimore Christos handed Virginia Beach City FC (4-1-2) its first defeat of the year, winning 3-2 Sunday night on Arion Sobers-Assue’s goal in the 79th minute of a National Premier Soccer League match at Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The Mid-Atlantic Conference-leading hosts’ three-game winning streak ended, and Baltimore extended its winning streak to three.

Prince Idornigie scored from 25 yards to give VBCFC a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, but Nicholas Richardson answered for Baltimore just before halftime to force a 1-1 tie.

Colin Weyant’s goal put Baltimore (3-1-1) ahead 2-1 in the 47th minute, but Ezana Kahsay tied the game by following a saved penalty kick with a goal in the 71st.

BASKETBALL

The Hampton Roads Warriors’ Jordan Baker and Julian Eleby were chosen to the East Coast Basketball League All-Star Game, which will be played in Charlotte, N.C., at the Carole Hoefner Center on June 29.

Tremayne Gates Jr. got a spot in the 3-point shootout, and Shyheim Draughan will be in the dunk contest.

Baker starred for Hampton High and Old Dominion, while Eleby played for VMI. Gates played for Belmont Abbey and Johnson C. Smith, while Draughan competed for Maury High and Bryant & Stratton.
