The preparations are underway for Pitt to start hosting various recruits over the next few months.

Many of these visits will occur while the Panthers start spring practice and in the summer when they conduct their prospect camps.

One of the players that plans on making a upcoming trip to Pittsburgh is New Jersey athlete Shawn Collins.

Collins (6’5”, 215) is a junior tight end/defensive end from Montclair, New Jersey and has been hearing a lot from Pitt, in particular Tim Salem.

“Coach Salem first starting contacting me back during my sophomore season,” said Collins. “He came in this year to get my transcripts and I plan on visiting Pitt on April 6.”

“Coach says that he’s recruiting me as a defensive end although I play tight end too. He loves my pass rush ability and that’s a need this year for the team.”

Collins believes he can play both defensive end and tight end, which he just started playing this season. He tells me that his favorite thing to do is rush the quarterback but also enjoys going out to catch passes.

“It’s a great feeling when you see a college showing that much love sending me messages and showing me in their uniform. When I first saw it, I was like wow. That actually made me more interested and excited about going to visit Pitt,” said Collins.

The talented New Jersey athlete is waiting for his first offer but has been hearing from schools such as Temple, Virginia Tech, Columbia and Boston College.

Collins has made a few college visits and is looking forward to making his first visit to Pitt.

”I’m looking forward to seeing what the college is like. It’s a place that’s not too far from home, like five hours which is ok with me,” said Collins.

”Possibly getting an offer from Pitt would be a huge achievement in my life. The first offer is going to mean a lot to me.”
