NEWARK, NJ — A 23-year-old man died in Newark following a firecracker incident, city officials said Sunday.

He was holding a large firecracker and it “caused eternal [sic] injuries to his hand and apparently internal injuries to which he succumbed,” officials said.

No identifying information has been released.
