RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond redshirt junior defensive lineman Kobie Turner (Clifton, Va.) was named preseason First Team All-America by Hero Sports Thursday afternoon, becoming the first Spider defender to earn First Team All-America honors in the preseason since David Jones in 2016.
 
Turner, a team captain, is one of six selections on the First Team from the Colonial Athletic Association and one of just two defensive players on the team, joined by Villanova's Forrest Rhyne.
 
Turner burst onto the scene last fall in his first full year as a starter, earning Third Team All-CAA honors. He led all CAA defensive lineman in tackles with 71 on the year, including a team-high 14.5 tackles for loss. He also added a career-high 7.0 sacks while starting all 12 games for the Spiders.
 
Turner's 71 total tackles ranks second in the NCAA FCS among all returning defensive linemen in the country. He recorded five games with seven or more tackles, including a career-high 12.0 tackles as James Madison. He posted a career-high 2.0 sacks in the win over NCAA FCS playoff participant UAlbany.
