West Roxbury resident awarded Rockland Trust scholarship

Rockland Trust, a local bank, recently announced the recipients of its 2020 scholarship program, including Christopher Zhu, of West Roxbury.

The winners were selected based on academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and an essay on “the importance of community service.” This year, 11 recipients were selected out of over 2,000 applications; the largest amount of applications Rockland Trust has received in the history of the program. The scholarship program was open to high school seniors entering their freshman year of college for the 2020-21 school year residing in the communities served by Rockland Trust.

Traditionally, Rockland Trust hosts a ceremony to commemorate the winners of the scholarship program. In 2020, the ceremony will not take place in the interest of public safety. Instead, each student will be highlighted on Rockland Trust’s social media pages throughout the summer.

“Despite not being able to hold our ceremony this year, we wanted to make sure these students were still recognized for their tremendous accomplishments,” said Christopher Oddleifson, CEO of Rockland Trust. “Each one of these inspiring young adults has already made a meaningful impact in their community and we’re proud to support them as they take another step toward achieving their dreams.”
