499-Acre Grass Fire Burning Near Sloughhouse

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) — Firefighters fought a 499-acre grass fire near Sloughhouse on Meiss Road Thursday afternoon.

The fire started near the 14000 block of Meiss Road near Dillard Road. Dubbed the Meiss Fire, crews estimate it has grown to about 499 acres and is 60% contained.

Large clouds of smoke could be seen in the area around 5 p.m. Cal Fire says a volunteer staff member from the Mt. Zion lookout first noticed the fire on the Van Vleck Ranch near Rancho Murieta. Firefighters say the quick report and response helped crews stop forward progress early.

Multiple crews responded to the scene.

No injuries or structure damage has been reported.

This is a developing story.
