Following Saints’ first signature of the summer in Moussa Djenepo, the south-coast club will still be in the market for attacking prowess to help aid in a push for a top-half Premier League finish.

One name that has regularly been mentioned is that of Birmingham City’s Che Adams, the 22-year-old striker was tipped for a move to St. Mary’s during January of this year – which unfortunately fell through due to the two clubs being unable to agree a fee.

But with Southampton clearing out deadwood to raise funds, and the former Sheffield United striker receiving interest from other Premier League sides such as Aston Villa, along with the ‘Red & White‘ – it is likely that Adams will want a move onto pastures green.

So why do Southampton want the Blues striker, and what would he bring to the team?

The obvious answer would be his goal-scoring record over the past season – 22 goals, 4 assists in 43 Championship starts is rather impressive stat and suggests that he is of Premier League quality.

Especially given his age of 22, means that the 5ft9 player still has not quite hit his potential, and therefore could be a real star asset in a few years time if he decided to join the ‘Hasenhuttl train’.

In terms of his style of play via whoscored.com, Adams is considered to be a ‘counter attack threat’. This would suggest that he possesses great pace, while he also ‘likes to shoot from distance and likes to dribble’.

The English striker’s ability to press with his pace and dribbling with the ball at feet goes hand in hand with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s high intensity game-plan, putting pressure on the opposition back-line into forced mistakes and thus not allow them to keep possession will assist in winning games or by making Southampton difficult to beat.

It could be argued that we currently have a similar player in Shane Long, when it comes to pressing the opposition with pace.

However, with the Birmingham City player’s goal scoring record, dribbling ability, and being a shy ten-years-younger than the mentioned Irishman – he would be an excellent buy for the south-coast outfit.
