Southampton: Saints legend hilariously tries out Tik Tok at home

The Coronavirus suspension has meant more time to try new things for Southampton players and fans alike.

It looks like this statement is also true for Saints legends too as Matt Le Tissier has shown today.

Via a video from Saints’ official Twitter account, we can see that the 51-year-old has had a go at creating his own Tik Tok video to fit with some classic bits of commentary from his playing days.

Moments like his amazing double against Newcastle back in 1993 are relived as we see him coming back through his front door, and then he puts his golf skills to the test as we hear classic lines from a memorable win over Liverpool.

Videos like this show that Saints are trying to capture some of Tik Tok’s huge popularity across the world, with the app even more appealing for the younger audience in current circumstances.

The power of social media is certainly useful for clubs and player when things are going well, but there are often mixed feelings on whether direct engagement with fans is such a good thing sometimes.

The good side was seen during the summer when Saints used clever videos to announce their signings.

Each of Che Adams, Moussa Djenepo and Kevin Danso arrived and were shown getting on the “Ralph Express” – a train driven by Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The announcements also included subtle digs at both Liverpool and Portsmouth to entertain Saints fans just that little bit more, and the videos all went viral after being posted.

Saints have also had their bad dealings with social media, and examples have come in the past from former players Charlie Austin and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Austin infuriated fans by posting a picture of himself in a Liverpool shirt and then proceeded to argue with supporters about how he was the best striker at the club.

Schneiderlin’s famous tweet – “6 years of an amazing journey DESTROYED in one hour!!!” – came as he was denied a move back in 2014 and angered fans again, but the Frenchman then subsequently focused back on playing for the club and became a vital part of the team once again.
