The Seattle Seahawks made a move to add depth to their depleted offensive line, signing veteran guard Landon Turner. In order to make room, the team placed undrafted free agent guard Demetrius Knox on the injured reserve.

Turner was a starting guard at the University of North Carolina from 2012-2015. He went undrafted but caught on with the New Orleans Saints, appearing in seven games for them in 2016 and even starting one.

He spent all of 2017 and part of 2018 on New Orleans’ practice squad, before getting released in October and spending time with the Vikings and the Panthers – who cut him in May of this year.

Turner gives the Seahawks much-needed depth up front. The team is currently without Mike Iupati, Phil Haynes and Jordan Simmons at the guard position, and lost Knox to a quad injury during Sunday’s preseason loss to the Vikings.

“It looks like he’s got a quad injury that’s involved with the knee area,” coach Pete Carroll commented after the game. “It’s a nasty injury for him. We’ve got to do some tests, but it’s a quadriceps-related injury in regards to his knee.”

Turner will provide depth for the Seahawks in their final two preseason games, and could sneak onto the roster if he plays well – and/or if injuries linger into the regular season for some of Seattle’s big men up front.
