5 Good Father’s Day Options For Procrastinators

In case the recent barrage of commercials for sensible pants weren’t a clue, here’s a reminder that Father’s Day is coming Sunday, June 16. And while this holiday is usually a little more on the subdued side than the brunch rush of Mother’s Day, it’s still nice to have a few dining options for those who may have let plans slip. Across town, steakhouses are no doubt planning overpriced specials with scotch flights. But here are five spots that may offer something a little different for dad. Mountaineering Club

This striking rooftop bar at the top of the Graduate Hotel in the U District boasts great views of the city and the mountains. It will also be hosting a Father’s Day pop-up specializing in customizable stacked-style eggs benedicts, with options to get all the items in a bag or on a skillet (yes, even the poached egg part). Waffle tots and a s’mores pancakes round out the menu, which will be the first time the restaurant has served brunch since it opened in March. Might be best to make reservations ahead of time: It’s graduation weekend for the Huskies and the neighborhood will be hopping.

Musang

Rising chef Melissa Miranda’s wildly popular Filipino brunch pop-up held at Beacon Hill’s Bar Del Corso was named after her dad (Musang is Tagalog for “Wild Cat”). And the food emphasizes that warm, family vibe, with dishes such as silog (garlic fried rice with eggs) and lamb ribs. Don’t sleep on the special cocktails, either. Tickets are $40 per person.

Dirty Couch Brewing/Urban Family Brewing

The recently-opened Dirty Couch taproom in Magnolia is already drawing crowds for its excellent sour beers, including fan favorites Inflection Bourbon Cherry and Irregularity Blackberry Blonde. It’s also right near Urban Family, which features quite a few hoppy IPAs and, currently, a vanilla-flavored stout. With food trucks in the area such as Make Me a Sandwich (slinging pulled pork and grilled chicken), this could turn into a nice Sunday afternoon mini brewery crawl.

Flatstick Pub

It may be a little late to get pops a tee time at one of the many Seattle-area golf courses, but there are no reservations or tickets required at this mini golf/bar chain. Flatstick’s South Lake Union location has plenty of room to chill with a beer or snack (the mushroom and goat cheese pizza is a good bet), before playing a few holes. There’s also giant Jenga and other games available in the main dining area, in case those putts just aren’t sinking.

Wood Shop BBQ

We don’t want to assume all dads are Sitcom Dads who love a good roasted meat dish. But it’s hard to go wrong at this Central District barbecue spot that has a Texas-built smoker named Brad Pit, serving up dishes such as brisket and chicken wings. Must-have sides include the mac and cheese topped with 12-hour pulled pork and jalapeño cornbread. There’s also a massive patio that will come in handy, should the weather hold up.
