After Three Years, Sizzle Pie’s Seattle Outpost Will Close August 31

Time to bid farewell to a late-night pizza favorite on Capitol Hill. After three years in the neighborhood, Sizzle Pie — the popular Portland-based chain known for its hard rock vibe and pleasantly greasy slices — is closing its location on East Union Street, its lone outpost in Seattle, along with its boozy sibling spot next door, Dark Bar. In a statement, the restaurant said, “the continually rising overhead and operating costs in Seattle have brought us to the very difficult decision.” All other Sizzle Pie locations — which include five in Portland, one in Eugene, OR, and one in Reno, NV — will remain open.

Sizzle Pie’s Seattle restaurant was a draw for the late-night crowd, since dine-in and takeout hours stretched until the wee hours. It also had a pizza brunch and massive menu, which included gluten-free and vegan pies. Eater PDX calls the restaurant Portland’s “quintessential late-night pizza chain” with large slices that are “pleasing at any time of day.”

The pizzeria’s Chief Operating Officer, Bob Peyton, used to live in Seattle. But now that the chain is closing the Capitol Hill location, a future effort at expansion in the city seems unlikely. The restaurant said in its statement, “We would like to thank our customers, our friends and our staff for the last three years in Seattle. Every slice we’ve baked and served during our time here, has truly been a pleasure.”
