Pedestrian killed in Newark collision
A 65-year-old pedestrian died in a traffic collision Friday evening in Newark on Thornton Avenue.

A 65-year-old pedestrian died in a traffic collision Friday evening in Newark, police said Tuesday.
Newark resident Jean Schweitzer died after she was struck on Thornton Avenue west of Peachtree Avenue.
Police and Alameda County firefighters responded at 7:14 p.m. to the collision involving a vehicle and Schweitzer.
Schweitzer was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived and later died. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Police said they believe neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the collision and said it is under investigation.
