Days of our Lives actress turns health scare into a warning.

Martha Madison (Belle Black, Days of our Lives) turned her recent health scare into a preventative tip for her fans. As she described in her Instagram post, which included a photo of herself at the dermatologist’s office, Madison detailed her experience that led to the discovery of a melanoma on her back. The actress, who was last seen in Salem on July 9, said, “Lucky for me, the doc noticed it because it never would have occurred to me to think anything of it. Today, they carved the sucker out, and I’m so relieved to say that I’m officially melanoma free! This could have been a very different outcome if not for the expertise and care that Dr. Bentow at @dermatologyconsultantsoffrisco provided.” Soaps.com is relieved to hear of the successful results for Madison, who suggested to her followers, “If you’ve been procrastinating or on the fence about making an appointment, take this as ‘a sign’ and get to it!” Melanoma, a form of skin cancer, develops when pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) transform and become cancerous. Melanoma can also be found in the eyes (ocular melanoma), intestines – though rare, as well as other places on the body.

Madison’s onscreen sister Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady, Days of our Lives) experienced a similar situation in June when she tested positive for skin cancer. Luckily it was caught early, which led to Sweeney relaying her doctor’s advice to, “Check your skin for any noticeable changes and ask your doctor about it!!” In August, soap opera alum Patrika Darbo (Shirley Spectra, The Bold and the Beautiful; Nancy Wesley, Days of our Lives) shared her skin cancer surgery experience. Thankfully, these actors’ experiences have yielded positive outcomes. They’ve also brought about similar advice: wear sunscreen, take note of physical changes and do not hesitate to go to the doctor and ask questions.
