CELEBRATIONS are set as Birmingham Airport gets ready to host a one day festival next month.

Birmingham Airport Fest will mark the 80th anniversary of the airport at Sheldon Country Park on September 1.

From 11am until 5.30pm there will be plenty on offer including performances from the Birmingham Royal Ballet, a silent disco, interactive circus skill demonstrations, food and drink and Bob Wilsons funfair.

Nick Barton, chief executive at Birmingham Airport said: “We are very excited to announce our plans for the flagship event in our 80th Birthday year.

“We are very conscious of our surroundings and we also know that we do have an impact on our neighbours.

“For this reason, we wanted to be able to give something back to the community around us and say thank you by throwing a free festival for all the family.

“By holding Birmingham Airport Fest, the community will be able to share in our success and year-long celebration and we are looking forward to welcoming guests to this free for all festival.

“We look forward to seeing people from across the local area, partners and employees there.”

As part of the anniversary year, the airport is asking for stories from the community on their memories of the airport over the years.

There will be a small allocation of free car park spaces at Sheldon Country Park but attendees are encouraged to use public transport where possible.

Searches will take place at the entrance point.

Free tickets are available from https://planetradio.co.uk/free/local/events/birminghamairport-freeevent/ which should be taken to the event.
