A statistical look at Oklahoma's opponent (Kansas State)

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Through seven games, we have plenty of evidence against both No. 5 Oklahoma and Kansas State before their matchup.

Here is a statistical look at the Kansas State Wildcats.

EVERY PLAY MATTERS

The Wildcats rank No. 40 overall in total defense, allowing 347.7 yards per game. They rank third in the Big 12 behind just Oklahoma and Iowa State. Kansas State gives up more yards per play than any other defense in the Top 50, a stat Oklahoma, who averages more yards per play than any team in the country, will be sure to the advantage of.

KANSAS STATE’S OFFENSIVE WOES

Offensively, the Wildcats rank No. 96 in the country, only ranking above West Virginia on the list of the Sooners opponents. They only average 369 yards per game, just a few yards over Oklahoma’s average of 326 yards allowed a game. The Sooners have been making a statement to the nation with their defense, and the Kansas State game will be a chance to continue to prove themselves.

HURTS VS. THOMPSON

Not many quarterbacks compare with Jalen Hurts this season, Skylar Thompson included. Hurts has just 21 more passing attempts than Thompson, and has more than doubled his yardage and nearly tripled his number of touchdowns. Thompson is going to have to take risks and have them pay off to outplay Hurts and win on Saturday.
