Southampton’s big money signing of striker Guidi Carrillo certainly didn’t go to plan and having failed to find the back of the net in the handful of starts he was given at St Mary’s Stadium, the 27-year-old Argentine spent the season out on loan with Leganes.

Having rejoined former manager Mauricio Pellegrino at the club, he had a slightly better year scoring six times in 22 starts, but the two big questions when it comes to him this summer are simply ‘who to’ and ‘how much of a hit’ on the £19million we originally paid.

The summer transfer rumour mill has already linked him with a return to Argentina and mid last month he was also said to have attracted some interest from Greek side Olympiakos.

Greek outlet Sdna.Gr have now updated the initial speculation and suggested that the deal could be a joint player loan swap as we reportedly have our eye on midfielder Mady Camara.

It’s speculative at best and doesn’t actually claim we have made a move, simply that we continue to track Camara, but I can’t see that we’d be interested in another loan for Carrillo as that would reduce his value even more – although you could argue a good spell away from the club could be the best result.

With a claim from AS that Leganes would also potentially be interested in loaning him for a second season, at least we have a few options here.
