Even though the January transfer window is long closed for the season of 2018/19, it doesn’t stop the rumour mill from linking Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl with potential summer captures as he looks to further reshape our squad and get us back on an upward curve.

Italian outlet Calciomercato have reported – if you can call a sentance a report – that both West Ham and Southampton are interested in 21-year-old Danish international striker Kasper Dolberg.

The Ajax attacker is in good form so far this season, scoring nine times in 23 appearances for the Dutch giants and he obviously has decent international experience as well as Champions League experience despite his tender age.

He’s certainly a hot property in the game and he’s definitely highly rated as even I’ve heard of him – I also don’t believe it’s the first time he’s been linked with Premier League clubs in recent seasons, but nothing, as yet, has obviously come of it.

Whether or not we have a genuine interest given the brevity of the report remains to be seen, but in terms of getting Southampton back to their developmental best, he ticks a number of boxes on that front – albeit he wouldn’t come that cheap.

Maintaining our top flight status would be key to any interest coming to fruition though and I actually hope there is something in this one.
