Report: Mississippi State potential first-round pick Jeffery Simmons suffers torn ACL in training
Bad news for a player considered a first-round prospect in this year’s NFL draft: Mississippi State defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons reportedly tore his ACL on Tuesday.
Simmons was doing a routine drill during a workout when the injury occurred, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
It’s hard to tell how the injury will affect his draft status. In terms of talent, most draft prognosticators consider the 6-foot-4 Simmons a first-round talent.
However, Simmons is one of at least two players who were denied an invitation to the scouting combine because of a prior incident of violence against a woman.

In March 2016, just before he enrolled at Mississippi State, video showed Simmons punching a woman several times as she lay in a street. He eventually was found guilty of malicious intent and pleaded no contest to simple assault; Mississippi State suspended him for one game.
