Game-by-game predictions for Oklahoma in 2019: Can the Sooners avoid another slip-up vs. Texas?

Here are game-by-game predictions for Oklahoma's 2019 season:

Houston at Oklahoma: Sept. 1

This is a potential revenge game for the Sooners, who lost to Tom Herman’s Houston Cougars to begin the 2016 season. Quarterback D’Eriq King will provide a big challenge for new OU defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, but Houston’s defense won’t be able to keep up with the Sooners’ attack.

Prediction: Oklahoma 52, Houston 31

South Dakota at Oklahoma: Sept. 7

This will be a short week for Oklahoma due to the Sunday night kickoff, but it shouldn’t matter as South Dakota enters the season as an unranked FCS program. Look for a backup quarterbacks Tanner Mordecai and Spencer Rattler to get some run in the second half of this game.

Oklahoma at UCLA: Sept. 14

Oklahoma will be closing out a home-and-home series with the Bruins in Week 3. The Sooners won their home game handily a season ago, but Chip Kelly and UCLA should be more prepared this season. Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be another tough non-conference test for Grinch’s defensive scheme, but Oklahoma shouldn’t drop this one.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma: Sept. 28

Oklahoma opens Big 12 play against a new-look Texas Tech program. It’s too early to know what the Red Raiders will look like in 2019, but sophomore quarterback Alan Bowman gave the Sooners a scare last season in Lubbock. New coach Matt Wells has given Texas Tech some momentum, but they’re probably still a year away.

Prediction: Oklahoma 52, Texas Tech 21

Oklahoma at Kansas: Oct. 5

Les Miles seems to have had Oklahoma’s number over the years, but it’s been a long time since he’s had to prove it. Kansas running back Pooka Williams is one of the Big 12’s best skill players, but the Jayhawks are outmatched here.

Prediction: Oklahoma 56, Kansas 17

Oklahoma vs. Texas: Oct. 12

This game is setting up to be another classic at the Cotton Bowl. No coach has beaten Oklahoma more than once since Lincoln Riley arrived in 2015 -- except for Tom Herman. History could repeat itself here, as either Sam Ehlinger or Jalen Hurts lofts into Heisman Trophy contention.

Prediction: Texas 35, Oklahoma 31

West Virginia at Oklahoma: Oct. 19

Neal Brown was a good hire for the Mountaineers, but it’s going to take some time. West Virginia lost most of its secondary to the transfer portal and a good chunk of its offense to the NFL. Adding that to a long road trip to Norman, and this one could get out of hand quickly.

Prediction: Oklahoma 52, West Virginia 24

Oklahoma at Kansas State: Oct. 26

Another week, another brand new Big 12 coach. The Sooners won’t be facing Bill Snyder in Manhattan for the first time since 2008, when Oklahoma won 58-35. Look for a similar outcome against K-State in Chris Klieman’s first season.

Prediction: Oklahoma 38, Kansas State: 13

Iowa State at Oklahoma: Nov. 9

The last time Iowa State played in Norman, they came away with one of the most surprising upsets in recent college football history. Two years later, and the Cyclones are still led by Matt Campbell and find themselves ranked No. 21 in the preseason AP Poll. But without David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler, Iowa State’s offensive ceiling is much lower. To make matters worse for the Cyclones, the Sooners will have a BYE week to prepare for their effective defensive scheme.

Prediction: Oklahoma 31, Iowa State 21

Oklahoma at Baylor: Nov. 16

Charlie Brewer and the Bears almost upset Oklahoma two years ago in Waco, and now they’ll get another chance. Coach Matt Rhule has nearly completed a remarkable program turnaround, but there’s still some work to do before catching up to Oklahoma, Texas and TCU in the Big 12.

Prediction: Oklahoma 49, Baylor 28

TCU at Oklahoma: Nov. 23

TCU might be the Big 12’s third best team this season, but Gary Patterson hasn’t had much luck stopping Lincoln Riley’s offenses. The Sooners have won five straight, including three consecutive by 18 or more points. TCU’s offense might be better this season, but Lincoln Riley seems to have their number.

Prediction: Oklahoma 45, TCU 28

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State: Nov. 30

Oklahoma State nearly upset the Sooners in Norman last season despite being three-touchdown underdogs. But that was a low-point for Oklahoma’s defense under Ruffin McNeill, and Grinch should have things figured out by November. Receiver Tylan Wallace will have to be reckoned with, but the Sooners should secure their fifth straight Bedlam victory.

Prediction: Oklahoma 51, Oklahoma State 35

Final regular season record prediction: 11-1
