The raid points made the difference at the end of the day as Patna Pirates skipper Pardeep Narwal struggled all day against the U Mumba defence.

Outplayed after the first-half, U Mumba pulled off a thrilling 34-30 win against Patna Pirates in the Pro Kabaddi League 7 at the Eka Arena By TransStadia in Ahmedabad here on Friday.

U Mumba’s hero was the last man standing, raider Rohit Baliyan, who faced with the potential of being captured and handing all out points and a win to the Pirates, virtually held his nerve in the last 30 seconds of the match and unleashed a Super Raid to pull off a remarkable result in favour of his side.

Baliyan escaped from the clutches of Hadi Oshtorak, Jang Kun Lee and Neeraj Kumar who were involved in the struggle and won the match, that with a bit of luck, could have gone the Pirates’ way.

But so sure was Baliyan of his brilliant individual effort as the rest of his teammates were in the waiter’s block anxiously waiting for the outcome of the official review.

Leading 22-9 at half time, U Mumba allowed the Pirates to claw its way back with defender Ravinder contributing three vital points. Pardeep Narwal, who started of well, went past 1600 raid attempts in the league and managed only six raid points from 18 raids in the match.

U Mumba — which appeared to be clueless surrendering the big lead it had established —- looked set to lose leading 31-30 with Baliyan set for the last raid of the match. The top scorer for U Mumba though showed an ice cool temperament before completing the Super Raid.

Baliyan scored nine points, while M.S Athul and Sandeep Narwal bagged eight and six points respectively for the winner. It was U Mumba’s fourth win in eight matches.
