Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: Charlie Austin’s post-match rant shows that players do care

PEH has a point; it’s about time someone other than him says something other than the usual post-match platitudes.

Southampton’s Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg defended Charlie Austin’s post-game interview where he raged against a controversial refereeing decision which saw his goal disallowed.

Hojbjerg said Austin’s TV outburst proved how players do care about what happens on the pitch.

Of course, Austin’s ranty interview was turned into a meme and given the Parklife treatment, something the striker fully embraced.

“Charlie was raging and of course it can be a little bit funny,” Hojbjerg told Press Association Sport. [H/T Sky Sports]

“But I don’t think the whole situation is funny. What I can say about Charlie is I fully understand his emotion, and we spoke together as team-mates about what happened.

“Charlie’s interview shows that players do care. Believe me, we care a lot.

“It also show that football is about emotions, and Charlie said what everyone saw and maybe what the Southampton shirts felt.”
