Similar to kitchens, bathrooms need be both functional and stylish. These practical spaces are some of the most visited spots in our homes, and for that reason, they are deserving of memorable design. We have gathered seven bathroom spaces that showcase inspiring ideas for spaces large and small. These master bathrooms and powder rooms, perfected by local designers, show a range of styles and tell us one thing: beautiful bathrooms are possible!
Serene, organic space
A space that incorporates natural materials, this bathroom is soft and welcoming. “The interaction of the stone tub, antique wood floorings and stone floors creates a serene, organic space,” John Montgomery of Montgomery Classic Construction shares. An added softness comes from the frosted glass on the shower door and transom. While each detail is noteworthy, it is the floors that first caught our attention. “The flooring is an amazing antique, Original Face reclaimed wood. The wood is approximately 150 years old and is stained dark with a crystal clear conversion varnish, satin sheen,” explains Textures Nashville’s Andrew Denny of the flooring, which was made by Peachey Hardwood and supplied and installed by Textures Nashville.
Natural light
Hammond & Brandt and Ryan Thewes came together to create this clean, contemporary space. “The ultra-private, wooded homesite allows for an abundance of natural light to flood the bath as well as a private rooftop terrace just outside,” Paul Hammond tells us. “The no-curb shower entry is also a nice touch that many of our clients prefer. But these have to be planned before the project starts so that the floor structure can be recessed accordingly.”
Unexpected details
Bathrooms of every size deserve attention to detail. This powder room is full of unexpected elements. “Notice the unique placement of the circular, wall-mounted faucet handles and the single sheet of metal bent to create the backsplash, countertop and apron,” Beth Haley of Beth Haley Design urges us. “The graphic tile pattern adds an additional punch to the otherwise simple finishes and balances the industrial feel of the room.”
Classic and eye-catching
This personality-filled powder room sits on the first floor of an open-concept home that accommodates the flow of the homeowners and their family. The powder room is a hidden jewel and exhibits how wallpaper can bring life to the smallest of spaces. The Nashville home follows a classic English style that suits the tastes of the homeowners. “It stays true to our design philosophy but reflects the style and comfort desired by our client,” explains Mark Simmons of Mark Simmons Interiors.

Light and airy
Creative design makes this bathroom one-of-a-kind. A walk-through shower anchors the space, and is “not only convenient but it keeps the space light and airy,” Kathleen Evers of K. Evers Interiors tells us. “I combined the bath and closet to keep the space more open rather than having a ‘walk-in’ closet. The use of mirror on the closet cabinet doors reflects the light well and shows off the beautiful marble floor pattern.”
Thoughtful placement
This historic home was transformed — from top to bottom.“The home is one of the few examples of Victorian architecture in Nashville,” explains Tyler LeMarinel of Allard Ward Architects. The master bathroom received a fresh look when carpet was removed and tile was added. The home overlooks a large park and in an effort to preserve the views, the windows were left (mostly) unobstructed.

Natural oasis
The Parkes & Lamb Interiors team has mastered master bathroom design. This space, a forever favorite, offers an oasis for a weary traveler. “We wanted to make sure that [the homeowner] came home at the end of the day to a peaceful sanctuary where she could relax and unwind,” Blair Parkes says. “The neighborhood is quiet with beautiful wooded views, and we wanted to reflect this in the design.” With cypress lining the walls and ceilings, the organic nature of the space is apparent.
