Dan James has finally joined Leeds - two years after the transfer collapsed at the last moment.

The winger had completed his medical at the club's training ground in January 2019, picked his squad number and even posed with the shirt only for him to head to Manchester United six months later.

Now, though, the rivals have come to an agreement that will see the Elland Road side pay around £25million.

Leeds' fly-on-the-wall documentary showed just how close James came to joining the Championship club on deadline day two years ago only for him to remain at Swansea for the rest of the season - and the club even made reference to the fact in their unveiling on Twitter, with a number of posts alluding to the failed deal.

Back then, James had been identified as someone who could help fire them into the Premier League as they were flying in the Championship.

Everything appeared to be in place but Swansea chiefs started to ignore texts and calls as there was a split in their boardroom over whether to sell or not.

"Whilst from a fan's perspective it clearly looked like a f*** up, I think we were just the unwitting victim of boardroom politics at the Swansea end," club chief Angus Kinnear said.

"It was unfortunate because we couldn't make the deal work for Daniel in the end and I think it would have been a good deal for him and his family, but also from a football perspective."

James is then seen bidding farewell to the deal makers and staff at Elland Road, who will have to pay Swansea £1.5m as part of a sell-on fee initiated by the Welsh club two years ago.

The final scenes of the collapsed transfer are shown in episode three of the Amazon Prime Video documentary Take Us Home, which focused on Leeds’ 2018/19 campaign - the debut season under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The camera crew followed Leeds throughout the campaign last term which saw them finish third in the Championship before losing to Derby in the play-offs.
