Tony Bellew has passionate argument with Everton fan about Toffees LIVE on talkSPORT – LISTEN

Former boxer Tony Bellew had a heated debate with an angry Everton fan following the Toffees' 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Friday evening.

Villa's club-record £22million signing Wesley opened his account before Anwar El Ghazi wrapped up the points in stoppage time to inflict a disappointing result on Marco Silva's side.

It was Everton's first defeat of the season and prevented them moving top of the Premier League table, with many predicting the Toffees to fight in the upper reaches of the division this term.

They are one of a few sides backed to challenge for a place in the top six throughout 2019/20, but one supporter believes Everton do NOT have the quality to finish that high.

"I just don't really know what you think we've brought in that's going to change things." the Everton fan told the Sports Bar after calling talkSPORT.

"If you're gonna play for the top six, you need to have three or four players who are nailed on to play for a top side."

Bellew, himself a passionate Everton supporter, disagreed with the caller, however.

He insisted several members of Everton's first-team would walk into any of the top six clubs.

The former cruiserweight champion replied: "It's true to say we do not have players worth hundreds of millions in today's market. We may not have that, no.

"But outside of that top five or six teams, Everton have players that walk into top sides.

"Gylfi Sigurdson on his day is an outstanding player - there's no two ways about that.

"Lucas Digne had the second most assists out of a full-back than any other player last season. Unbelievable player. You've got England's No.1 in goal.

"I'm as annoyed as anyone about the result but you cannot say we do not have a good side".
