Tennessee Football: Jeremy Pruitt is lighting up the recruiting trail

Jeremy Pruitt is lighting up the recruiting trail with five commits in the past couple of weeks, including two three-stars, three four-stars.

Jeremy Pruitt was known for being a good recruiter at Alabama along with developing defensive talent and getting them NFL ready. Pruitt has been working hard on the recruiting trail in his first full recruiting cycle at Tennessee.

Pruitt has brought in five of his ten 2020 commits in June alone including a 2021 and 2023 commit. Tennessee is currently 29th in the country and tenth in the SEC in recruiting, but Pruitt has a lot of time to move up the rankings.

Pruitt kicked off the month making headlines with a verbal commitment from Tony Mitchell, a member of the 2023 class, and the first to commit to the Vols as a part of that class.

This was very unexpected as you don’t see this happen too often, especially to a school like Tennessee.

Mitchell is heading into his freshman season, so I’m sure he will change his mind a few times as more offers come rolling in over the next few years.

After that, Pruitt went into the recruiting hotspot of Illinois to get two teammates to commit within 24 hours of each other.

Antonio Johnson and Javontez Spraggins are teammates at East St. Louis High School out of Illinois. Johnson is a four-star defensive back, and Spraggins is a three-star offensive lineman who could jump up to a four-star this fall.

Pruitt has made a priority in going after guys at these positions, especially offensive linemen.

The next guy that committed to the Vols is Lovie Jenkins. After Jenkins committed, it seemed like Pruitt was about to get rolling with commitments, and he’s done just that since the June 12th commitment.

Jenkins has offers from the likes of Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt but the Florida cornerback chose Pruitt in the Vols over the other middle of the road SEC teams.

Jenkins is extremely versatile on defense and can move around as needed. He can be a lockdown corner or a free safety covering the middle-third of the field.

He is one of Pruitt’s guys and a player that could develop easily under Pruitt’s leadership.

Cooper Mays was the next guy to announce Tennessee as his future home. After his brother, Cade betrayed the Vols last year, Cooper has decided to right his brother’s wrongs.

Mays is similar to his brother with the ability to be a four-year starter at Tennessee. Lining him up beside Wanya Morris, Darnell Wright, and Jackson Lampley could be a lethal combination.

The most recent commit is a Class of 2021 product. Jordan Mosley announced he has verbally committed to the Vols after visiting Rocky Top.

Pruitt and the staff must’ve done a really good job making Mosley feel at home in Knoxville because he committed almost immediately after getting off campus.

Mosley has offers from Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M and outside of the SEC, Indiana, Oregon, and Virginia Tech have also offered him.

Mosley is a hot commodity for many teams as programs are looking to get off to a hot start for the 2021 class. The last thing Pruitt needs to do is start focusing on the 2021 class before he’s done with the 2020 class.

I don’t think that’s what Pruitt is doing I believe him and Moose are working hard to get these guys in here and committed before the early signing period in December.

Harrison Bailey has also been reportedly working hard to get some of his guys in Marietta to join him in Knoxville and commit to Tennessee.

Marietta, Georgia, is a hotbed of talent so if Pruitt can steal some talent out of Kirby Smart’s back yard that would be a huge success.

There’s a reason Pruitt canceled the coach’s caravan, and we’re about to see why. The on-field product should take a huge jump and Pruitt is working hard on the recruiting trail bringing in some of the best talent from across the country.

June is also a perfect month to start building momentum. If Pruitt can build off his success in June and continue to add on to the 2020 class in July and into the Fall, we could see the Vols quickly jump up the recruiting rankings.

Last year’s recruiting class was 12th in the country, so Pruitt has some work to do to get the Vols back there before December, but if anyone can do it, it’s him.
