Alabama coffee shop owner says man yelled pro-Nazi slogans at customers

The owner of an Auburn, Ala., coffee shop said a man came into the business and delivered a “racist monologue” at customers this week.

“We had a white supremacist with a gun stand up on a chair in our Gay Street cafe tonight and yell nazi rhetoric at all of our customers- a lot of those being people of color,” Sarah Barnett Gill, the owner of Mama Mocha’s Coffee Emporium, posted on Facebook on Tuesday night.

{mosads}”He was giving Heil Hitler arm motions pretty aggressively,” Gill told The Auburn Plainsman. “He loudly started talking about Nazi rhetoric and White Lives Matter and giving a racist monologue.”

Auburn police responded to the scene on Tuesday after receiving a call about disorderly conduct, AL.com reported.

Authorities told employees that the man’s gun was registered, adding that he was “within his right to free speech.” Police did not name the man and did not charge him because they did not witness the event and the gun was licensed to the man.

“It was determined that the suspect was legally in possession of the weapon concealed on his person,” the Auburn Police Department told the news outlet in a statement. “The incident did not occur in the presence of APD Officers; as such, any criminal charges would have to be filed by a complainant.”

Richard Trammell, the cafe’s manager, told the Plainsman that the man has been banned from both of the stores’ locations.

“Police handled it. I mean, not a lot was done. We say he is banned, but that doesn’t keep him from coming back,” Trammell said. “Especially with the security issues of him having a gun, we’re kind of on our toes now.”
