Charity Lincoln City match raises over £3k

It was all in aid of the British Heart Foundation

More than £3,000 was raised at a charity football match with former Lincoln City players.

The Peter Burr memorial cup match kicked off on Friday, March 1 at Lincoln United’s ground on Ashby Avenue.

It was attended by around 500 people.

Gary Burr set up the match in memory of his dad Peter after he died from a heart attack two years ago.

Some of the most iconic former Imps featured in the match like Simon Yeo, Dean West, John Schofield and Gavin Gordon.

Former Imps showed their support.

There were plenty of goals to celebrate.

The deadlock was broken by Simon Yeo to put the former Imps team ahead before Gary Burr from the British Heart Foundation team levelled the game from the penalty spot.

Jac Wright then put the British Heart Foundation team in the lead to make it 2 – 1 until former Imp Gavin Gordon scored a late header to take the game to a penalty shootout.

The former Imps team won the match 5 – 4 after a tense round of penalties.

A night to remember.

Both teams posed for a photo.

Gary Burr, organiser of the memorial match, said: “To have a crowd of over 500 people absolutely amazed me and I can’t thank them enough for their support.

“It was such a brilliant evening with a great game of football, it was really competitive and there was lots of great banter, all for a very special cause.”

As well as buying tickets to watch the match, there was a raffle on the night to give away a signed Lincoln City football, a £100 Tesco gift card and other prizes.

There was also a silent auction before the match for a private dining experience worth £350 with award winning chef Darren Rogan.
