Extra direct Lincoln to London trains coming this summer

Better later than never!

LNER aims to increase direct trains between Lincoln and London from one to six daily return services by the end of the summer.

The train company announced its brand-new Azuma trains will be ready for passenger journeys from London King’s Cross to Leeds from Wednesday, May 15.

The first Azuma hybrid electric and diesel train will run from London King’s Cross to Leeds with more trains being phased into service to all other LNER destinations over the coming months.

LNER customers will see more seats and more trains as Azuma is rolled out across our route. The total fleet is increasing from 45 to 65 trains.

An LNER spokesperson said: “Following the introduction of our new Azuma trains, we are planning on increasing the number of Lincoln to London services later in the year.

“We currently run only one return service from Lincoln to London. We will be increasing this up to a total of six return services per day.”

As previously reported, Virgin Trains had confirmed that Lincoln would get direct trains to and from London every two hours from May 2019.

The extra trains previously looked to be in the balance after the termination of the Virgin Trains and Staegcoach Group East Midlands Mainline Contract. LNER then took over and the plans appear to now be on track.
