Flood alerts in and around Lincoln as wet weather continues

The weather in the city could brighten up by the weekend

Four flood alerts are in place for Lincoln and the surrounding areas on Friday morning, with even more across the county.

There has been heavy rainfall across Lincolnshire over the last three days so the water courses in the city of Lincoln are now rising. This could lead to flooding of low lying land and roads close to the river.

River levels are expected to remain high for Lincoln watercourses throughout the next few days. Forecasts indicate that flooding to properties isn’t likely, so flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

River levels are being monitored and staff are in checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens.

In the following areas flooding is possible and it is advised to be prepared:

  • Barlings Eau and Duckpool Catchwater
  • Lincoln Watercourses
  • Lower River Witham
  • Witham in North Kesteven

According to the Met Office light rain is forecast on Friday and then changing to partly cloudy by night time.

Saturday should see an improvement in the conditions with a forecast of sunny changing to cloudy by lunchtime, although there could be rain later in the day. The forecast for Sunday is currently sunny intervals changing to light showers by lunchtime.

The heavy rainfall across the county continues to cause havoc on Friday in areas including Wainfleet and Holbeach. A power station in Wainfleet flooded on Thursday.
