Lincoln pub closes suddenly

Is this unit jinxed?

A Lincoln pub which became the fourth business to occupy a unit on Newland in over six years appears to have shut down suddenly.

The Dandy Lion Alehouse opened in May 2018, but 15 months later a sign in the window states it has been secured by VPS.

The VPS group offer empty property protection, management and security services for vacant properties.

The business is listed as permanently closed on Google, and its Facebook page has also been deleted.

Shortly before opening The Dandy Lion last year owner Adam Kay told The Lincolnite he was excited about his new venture and hoped to build a nice loyal customer base.

However, the pub is now closed. The Lincolnite approached owner Adam Kay for further information, but there was no reply by the time of publication.

The company ‘The Dandy Lion Alehouse Limited’ was wound up and liquidators were appointed in March this year.

According to Companies House a general meeting of the members of The Dandy Lion Alehouse Limited met at 3 Newland, Lincoln on March 18, 2019. It was decided that the company would be wound up voluntarily.

It was also decided that Paul Mallatratt and Louise Freestone, both of Bridgewood Financial Solutions Limited in Nottingham, would be appointed joint liquidators of the company and that they would act jointly and severally.

Adam also took over the reigns at the Tap & Spile pub along with his brother Matthew in February 2019. The pub confirmed it remains open for business under the same ownership.

Ever-changing venue

The Dandy Lion Alehouse became the fourth business in the last six years to occupy the unit on Newland.

Scarlet Red closed down in January 2018. Previous owners Rebecca and Craig Robinson closed Scarlet Red only four months after re-opening the unit.

Before Scarlet Red, the unit used to house Dexters steakhouse, which lasted just one year.

Before Dexters, the unit was occupied by Lincolnshire Red steakhouse, which opened in December 2012 and closed three years later.

In a previous life before the frontage was revamped, the unit used to be a bar called Essence, and before that Martha’s and the Crown & Anchor.
